Yvonne Roeb comes from a family of doctors, which gave her an early sense of the body as something that is always changing, growing, adapting, and breaking down. Science is important to her sculpture, but it is never the whole story; she cares just as much about intuition, myth, and imagination. In her work, animal, plant, mineral, and human forms blend into one another.
The shapes she makes are hard to name and the materials matter as much as the forms. Hair, plaster, clay, and leather each come with their own memory and meaning, and she treats them as active parts of the work. She is fascinated by how blurred the line has become between what is human and what is not.
Roeb lives in Berlin and Paris and has shown across Europe and the United States. Her work is in public collections including the Art Collection of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Lehmbruck Museum, and the National Museum’s Four Domes Pavilion in Wrocław.
