Wallace Woo works in Paris, where he founded Stalactite Aesthetics and established Geological Abstractionism, a movement centered on time and material sedimentation.
His signature technique, which he calls "Acrylic with Ink Spirit," pairs the spontaneity of Eastern ink traditions with the density of Western mineral textures. The work draws on seventeen years of practice and a discipline rooted in Vipassana meditation.
"The act of painting is not decorative," Woo says, "it is an act of deposition." Woo builds the surface in stages, working with the pigment as much as directing it. He calls this a balance of control and surrender. His manifesto, The Dimension of Sedimentation, redefines the canvas as a site of Inner Geology, where experience accumulates in layers. Woo describes the finished paintings as records of what he calls Cave Time, a state of slow, deliberate attention.
