By the time she settled in Berlin, Magdalena Paz had already lived almost everywhere: Nigeria, Argentina, Venezuela, Egypt, Russia, Mexico, Italy, the United States, and Chile. She is Chilean, and moved to Germany in 2013.

Paz was an athlete before she was a painter, and she still treats the canvas like a physical discipline. Planning and structure meet instinct, so one painting can contain effort, tiredness, curiosity, and precision all together. She avoids tidy series and repeated motifs, preferring paintings that keep moving and changing.

Her subjects tend to stay close to home: everyday scenes, small quiet moments, pieces of her own life. Paz earned her BFA in 2012 as a transfer student across Pratt Institute and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and also studied sculpture in Santiago and illustration in Berlin.
