Gabriela Azar Rubagotti spent her childhood in galleries and studios. She was born in Santo Domingo into a family of professional artists, trained as an architect, and later took a master’s at Istituto Marangoni in Milan. Architecture, interior design, and fashion all influenced how she paints.

Her paintings are part abstract and part figurative, made with soft colors and loose brushwork. She paints in a calm, quiet way, drawing on memory, her surroundings, and her home in the Caribbean. Nature, femininity, and change come up again and again in her work.
