Borbála Eszteri

Borbála Eszteri studied fashion and design in Budapest, where she began by drawing models and clothes in watercolor. Over time she moved on to acrylics, and then to oil and pastel. In 2020, during the first lockdown, she started painting seriously, and that same year she moved from Hungary to Switzerland, where she still lives and works.

She paints figures in a loose, abstract way, using several materials in one piece: oil, oil pastel, acrylic, watercolor, and ink. She likes bright, personal colors, and she prefers to work spontaneously and rarely plans things out. Women have always been her main subject, though lately men have started to appear too, which surprises her.

For Borbála, painting is freedom. She calls the feeling she looks for “flow,” and she says she found it in painting after searching for it elsewhere. When people ask why she keeps returning to femininity and nature, she has a simple answer: “Feminine energy is beautiful simply because it exists; it creates life and is the source of creativity.”
