Project: Moroccan Pavilion
Why it Matters: Morocco presents its first national pavilion at the Venice Biennale

Morocco will present its first national pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia in 2026. The project, titled Asǝṭṭa, is created by artist Amina Agueznay and curated by Meriem Berrada. It will be installed in the Artiglierie at the Arsenale.

The installation takes its title from an Amazigh word associated with ritual weaving. Developed through research and collaboration with artisans across Morocco, the work reflects craft traditions and knowledge passed between generations.
Agueznay works with materials such as fibre, metal, and thread, combining traditional craft techniques with sculptural forms and spatial installations. Her projects develop through workshops and field research carried out with local communities, including weavers, embroiderers, and other artisans.

For the Biennale, Asǝṭṭa is conceived as a large-scale installation shaped around the idea of the threshold, the passage between interior and exterior spaces in Moroccan vernacular architecture. The pavilion also relates to the theme of the 2026 Biennale, In Minor Keys, curated by Koyo Kouoh.
The pavilion is organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of the Kingdom of Morocco as part of a broader effort to support contemporary artistic production and increase the international visibility of Moroccan artists.
