Luke Vinnicombe is a Scottish figurative painter based in Edinburgh. He studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, and his degree show earned him a place in the 2017 New Contemporaries exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy, where he won the RSA Landscape award. He grew up in Edinburgh and moved back after graduating.
His paintings take place in an invented world of bright color and absurd humor, where the figures are stuck in uncomfortable situations. That world reflects our own, and takes on masculinity, class, and human dominance over nature.
He works out the place and its characters in ink and charcoal, then paints the final images in thick oil on canvas, or acrylic on paper.
His work has been shown across Britain and Ireland, including at the Royal Scottish Academy and Transmission Gallery in Glasgow.
