Photography turns 200 this year, and the Pinault Collection is showing around 700 works by more than 80 photographers at the Bourse de Commerce. The title comes from a Barbara Kruger piece, an eye printed over a skin-like texture, with the words “Remember me” across it.

The photographs are hung by theme, so a nineteenth-century image can end up next to a contemporary one. A Richard Avedon portrait of Marilyn Monroe hangs near a Cindy Sherman self-portrait. Gustave Le Gray’s 1850s seascapes sit beside Eileen Quinlan’s. August Sander’s portraits of Germans face Sherrie Levine’s versions of the same pictures.

A few artists get a space of their own. Irving Penn’s gallery holds almost 450 of his prints, made across six decades of fashion, portraits and still lifes. Raymond Depardon shows 48 colour photographs of small-town France. Barbara Kruger has the Rotunda with a new installation of text and screens, and Nan Goldin’s video runs in the Auditorium.

The show also includes work by Claude Cahun, Lee Miller, Man Ray, Dorothea Lange, Zanele Muholi, Francesca Woodman, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Wolfgang Tillmans.

Remember Me runs through January 18, 2027.
