Miriam Dema painted these works after a stay at Las Cicadas, a restored 500 year old farmhouse that hosts small groups of artists for four week residencies. She was off her usual schedule and out of her usual studio. The paintings in Seu are slower and more deliberate because of it.

The works show domestic scenes: a table with a guitar and glasses on it, fruit on a chair, empty chairs after a meal. Dema works in acrylic, oil stick and lace, building up layered surfaces that stay loose rather than fully resolved. The palette is straight off the island: sun-bleached orange, dusty pink, a mineral blue.

Dema has described her subject as "the way we look at, move, and touch one another, from how we set the table to how a space changes during and after a gathering."

Her work has shown at Maddox Gallery in London, and at BETA Contemporary and Galeria Santa & Cole in Barcelona. Harper's Bazaar has covered her style as one "inspired by emotion and color."

The show also marks a shift for the gallery. Sarah Suco Torres founded Can Garita in 2023, after five years at Perrotin, in a converted fisherman's hut in Sa Caleta. The gallery ran a second space with Los Enamorados in Portinatx through 2024 and 2025. This year it moved into a permanent home inside the Ibiza Interiors warehouse in Sant Llorenç, with Alejandra Navarro, previously Senior Director at La Nave Salinas, joining as a new partner.

Seu runs through July 19, alongside CAN Art Fair.
